The aim with The Wine of The Year is
- To improve knowledge of wine among consumers.
- To expand the Wineculture in Finland.
Wine of The Year Competition is arranged for the 12th time.
The wineclub Helsingin Munskänkarna ry support with judges.
31 wine agents and importers of wine participated with 436 wines in the Wine of The Year 2009 competition.
There are twentyfive (25) competition series: twelv
red- and eight white-wine series, sweet (not fortified) wines, fortified wines, rosé wine, sparkling wine and champagne. The best wines in each serie is rewarded with
Gold, Silver and
Bronze diploma. The wine which has won the own serie and at the same time has the biggest difference in points to other wines,
is rewarded with Platium diplom and Wine of The Year 2009 title. The judges can in addition give a
certificate of honor to interesting wines which didn't recieve any diplomas.
